Celebrating Women's Mental Health Month with Actionable Wellness Strategies

By Melissa Brown | Health Science Solutions Practice Lead

Working on the Health Science Team at Logisolve I have been fortunate to work on meaningful and rewarding e-health delivery projects that make a positive impact on the daily lives of patients dealing with chronic and acute illnesses.  Because of this, I am frequently reminded of the importance of making my own health and wellness a priority. Unfortunately, for many women, balancing work, family life, and taking care of aging parents, personal health and wellness ends up taking a backseat to the urgent demands of our daily lives.

In today’s fast-paced world, women face unique challenges that can significantly impact their mental health. The American Psychological Association (APA) reports that women are more likely to experience anxiety and depression than men, yet many do not seek treatment. For instance, only about half of women with mental health conditions receive treatment.

The struggle to balance work and family responsibilities often leaves little room for self-care. A survey by the Pew Research Center indicated that 40% of working mothers feel that they do not spend enough time on self-care due to these demands.

Sleep, an essential component of health and well-being, is another casualty of the stress and multitasking that women often endure. The National Sleep Foundation reports that nearly one-third of women suffer from insomnia or other sleep disorders, frequently stemming from stress and the juggling act between work and home life.

Moreover, the role of caregiver, often assumed by women, can further exacerbate the neglect of their own health needs. A survey by the AARP Public Policy Institute found that female caregivers reported not having time to take care of their own health, resulting in women neglecting preventive care and screenings.

These statistics highlight the pressing need for greater awareness, support, and resources to address the mental and physical health challenges women face every day.

Because May is Women’s Health Month, we must take the time to prioritize our own well-being and learn how we can support others on a path to wellness. By taking a proactive approach to health and wellness, women can enjoy several benefits that enhance their quality of life, improve their relationships, boost their careers, and contribute to a healthier society.  As we observe Women’s Health Month at Logisolve, here are some of the key benefits to making health and wellness a priority in our own lives and the women we care about.

There’s dedicated workspace on-site, which can be used before or after either shift. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the Minneapolis community.
