ePrescribing Gateway
For dev teams who want to build their own ePrescribing UI on top of Surescripts connectivity. You bring the front-end — Gateway handles the rest.
ScriptWriter
The complete application. Front-end + Gateway connectivity bundled together. Install it, configure it, go live. No UI to build, no connectivity layer to wire up separately.
Other platforms skip compound
A published study in the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding documented that compound medications “may not be listed in the e-prescribing software.” The gap hasn’t closed. Standard platforms weren’t designed for compound workflows.
Subscriptions compound against you
DrFirst charges $49/month per practitioner + $799/year per feature. DoseSpot runs $200–$500/prescriber/month. At 25 prescribers over 3 years, that’s $180,000–$450,000 in fees. On infrastructure you don’t own.
ScriptWriter
Native compound prescribing. EPCS and 2FA ready. Drug Compendium plug-in ready. Gateway connectivity bundled. Installs in your environment. One implementation. Zero ongoing fees.
The Complete Application. Not A Connectivity Layer. Not A Subscription.
ScriptWriter is a full ePrescribing front-end that ships with Gateway backend connectivity already integrated. Your team installs one product. You get the prescribing UI, the compound builder, the drug search, the patient management, the prescription lifecycle — and the Surescripts connectivity underneath all of it.
Compound prescribing is built in as a first-class feature — not a workaround, not “create and save as a favorite.” Multi-ingredient formulations with individual concentrations, custom dosage forms, and full compounding instructions are part of the core product.
EPCS is ready — 2FA, identity proofing, and audit logging are defined. The Drug Compendium is plug-in ready: connect your existing drug database or formulary. Surescripts certification readiness is built in. You don’t assemble pieces from multiple vendors. You install one product and configure.
Fast To Go Live.
Everything Included From Day One.
Install in your environment
ScriptWriter installs directly into your infrastructure. Your prescribing data stays in your environment — no SaaS cloud dependency, no vendor hosting your patient or prescription data.
Plug in your Drug Compendium
Drug Compendium is plug-in ready. Connect your existing drug database or formulary through the standard API. No forced lock-in on the drug data layer — bring what you already have.
Connect 2FA for EPCS
EPCS is ready — 2FA, identity proofing, and audit logging are defined and built in. Connect your identity vendor of choice (Exostar, ID.me, IdenTrust) with minimal changes. No separate EPCS build required.
Certify with Surescripts
ScriptWriter ships Surescripts certification-ready. You’re not starting the certification process from scratch — Gateway handles the connectivity layer and the cert infrastructure is already in place.
Compound Prescribing Isn’t A Workaround Here.
Every major ePrescribing platform was designed for standard medication workflows. Compound prescriptions — multi-ingredient, custom dosage forms, compounding instructions — don’t fit the standard model. Platforms that technically support compound treat it as a manual exception: “create a custom medication and save as a favorite.” That’s a workaround, not a workflow.
ScriptWriter was built with compound as a primary use case. The compound builder is a first-class feature: specify each ingredient with its individual concentration, select the dosage form, add compounding instructions, and transmit through Surescripts via Gateway. The prescriber doesn’t work around the software — the software supports the workflow.
- Multi-ingredient formulations with per-ingredient concentrations
- Custom dosage forms — creams, gels, troches, injectables, capsules
- Compounding instructions captured and transmitted
- Pharmacy directory includes compound-capable and specialty pharmacies
- NCPDP SCRIPT compliant transmission through Gateway

“Compounding Pharmacies May Present An Additional Obstacle For E-Prescribing, As The Prescribed Medications Are Not Commercially Available And May Not Be Listed In The E-Prescribing Software.”
— Reed-Kane Et Al., International Journal Of Pharmaceutical Compounding, 2014
Everything A Prescriber Needs.
Owned Outright.
Compound Prescribing
Multi-ingredient formulations with individual concentrations, custom dosage forms, and compounding instructions. Native, not a workaround.
EPCS — Controlled Substances
DEA-compliant electronic prescribing for controlled substances. Identity proofing, 2FA, and audit logging defined and ready. Add your identity vendor.
Two-Factor Authentication
Built in. Required for EPCS. Vendor-agnostic — works with Exostar, ID.me, IdenTrust, or your existing identity provider.
New Prescription
Transmit standard and compound prescriptions to retail and mail-order pharmacies via Surescripts through bundled Gateway connectivity.
Full Prescription Lifecycle
Renewals, cancellations with reason codes, change requests, and refill approvals — the complete NCPDP SCRIPT message set handled natively.
Drug Search & Compendium
RxNorm-powered drug search. Drug Compendium is plug-in ready — connect your existing formulary or drug database through the standard API.
Formulary & Real-Time Benefit
Patient-specific formulary, coverage, copay, and real-time pharmacy benefit at the point of prescribing — available via Gateway.
Patient & Prescriber Management
Patient records with demographics and default pharmacy. Prescriber profiles with NPI, DEA, licenses, and Surescripts registration. Role-based access built in.
Dashboard & Message Center
Highlights renewals, change requests, recent prescriptions, and errors. Filter by type, status, date, patient, or prescriber. No items fall through the cracks.
The Subscription Model Compounds Against You. Scriptwriter Doesn’t.
Every subscription-based ePrescribing platform charges per prescriber, per year. At low volume the math looks manageable. As you scale — as you add prescribers to your platform — the cost grows with every one you add. That fee never stops.
ScriptWriter is a one-time implementation. The cost conversation ends at installation. Every prescriber you add after that costs you nothing additional.

Built For High-Stakes Environments
You need ePrescribing that actually handles compound workflows
Your prescriptions include multi-ingredient formulations. Standard platforms weren’t designed for this. ScriptWriter’s compound builder handles the full workflow — ingredients, concentrations, dosage form, instructions — transmitted via Surescripts.
You want native ePrescribing in your product, not an embedded third-party window
Not an iFrame from a vendor that looks foreign inside your application. ScriptWriter installs in your environment. Your prescribers never know it came from outside. And the per-prescriber subscription cost that grows with every provider you add — gone.
You need prescriber connectivity for specialty and compound medications
Your prescribers need to write compound and specialty prescriptions through Surescripts. EPCS for controlled substances is part of your workflow. ScriptWriter gives you a complete, owned prescribing application with both built in.
