In 2024 Logisolve was referred to a Twin Cities based company to help them take on a staffing challenge. While the Company’s final decision was to take a slightly different approach than was originally thought, they were impressed by how we had taken a collaborative approach in helping them. The tone of this initial engagement led them to ask us to participate in a joint effort to revamp and modernize an important, complex, yet aging aspect of their technical platform.

What Challenges Was The Company Facing?

As an industry information provider in a highly competitive market, timely and accurate data is a vital asset. While the company plays a vital role in helping their clients understand their market position, their primary tool for managing and publishing industry data was a legacy application built in VB6. Modernization had been thought about, but the day-to-day fulfillment of customer demand left little time for revamping the platform. It needed to be modernized to enable their ability to scale to meet increasing customer needs and implement new features essential for their business.

What Discoveries Did Logisolve Make As the Engagement Began?

While the legacy application functioned well, it was clear that its technical limitations were preventing our client  from innovating. The old platform lacked scalability, was difficult to maintain, and had deeply embedded business logic that was hard to untangle. Additionally, the data structures and workflows required for their unique industry were complex, adding another layer of challenge to the modernization effort. Also, the Company had some closely held ideas about how they wanted to proceed; we needed to gain their trust through successful delivery.

What Approach Did Logisolve Recommend?

We recommended a pilot project to take on a small but important part of the platform to let them see us in action, and to arrive on a technological approach that they could embrace. Beginning with the pilot, we recommended developing a modern, scalable web application that would not only replicate the functionality of the legacy system but also improve usability, performance, and flexibility. By leveraging more modern technologies such as React, NextJS, SignalR, and a .NET API, we aimed to create a robust, feature rich platform that could handle their unique business logic and data needs while allowing for ongoing refinement and expansion.

What Work Did Logisolve Take On to Help Solve the Problem?

We started by deeply analyzing the existing application to understand its core functionality and the embedded, industry-specific rules. From there, we built a new database editor application with cutting-edge tools and technologies. The new platform simplifies the way data is gathered, transformed, and synthesized while maintaining the complex logic their business requires. Key improvements included:

  • Enhanced data editing capabilities
  • Real-time notifications for seamless collaboration
  • A scalable architecture to support future growth
  • Improved performance and user experience

What Was the Outcome?

The result is a modern, intuitive application that serves as the backbone of their operations, rather than a tool that relies on deep knowledge of a few individuals. The platform empowers their team to more effectively and efficiently manage data, adapt to market demands, and provide their clients with timely and accurate insights. This transformation not only resolves their immediate challenges but also positions them to innovate and stay ahead of their competitors.

How Is The Company Better Positioned for Sustainable Success?

With this modernized application, they’re no longer held back by technological limitations and the availability of tenured staff. Their team can now focus on what they do best: analyzing and delivering market data to their clients, while the platform provides a solid foundation for future growth. They are now equipped to handle even more complex data structures, adapt to changing client needs, and introduce new features with ease.

What’s Next?

The journey doesn’t stop here; refining the platform will continue based on feedback from usability testing and customer requests. Additionally, we’ll tackle even more complicated data structures from the old system, ensuring all critical data is transitioned seamlessly to the new platform. This ongoing partnership ensures that the Company is positioned to remain at the forefront of their industry.
