How to Fit In Fast as the New Consultant
Written by Chris Madden
Starting a new consulting gig? It can feel like
you’re thrown into the deep end, trying to learn a client’s world while making sure you don’t mess
up your own. But don’t worry—you’ve got this!
Here’s how to fit in quickly, have fun, and actually enjoy your first days.
1. Pick Up the Vibe
Every company has its own energy. Are people
chill and chatty or all business? Do they slack off
in Zoom meetings or prefer to stay super professional? The faster you pick up on these
little cultural cues, the faster you’ll feel comfortable jumping in and contributing. So, pay attention to
how people talk, act, and work together!
2. Make Friends (or At Least Find Allies)
Consulting isn’t just about the work—it’s about the people you work with. Introduce yourself, chat with your team, and make a point to get to know your client. The more you build those connections, the easier it is to navigate the chaos, get feedback, and feel like you’re part of the squad.
3. Know What’s Expected, Quickly
Things can move fast in consulting, and it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind. So, get the lay of the land ASAP. What do they want from you? What’s the deadline? What’s your role in the big picture? Clarifying expectations early will keep you from spinning your wheels later on.
4. Tech It Out
Consultants live by their tools—whether it’s a project management platform, Slack, or something else. Take a little time to get comfortable with the tools the team uses. The sooner you get the hang of these, the quicker you’ll get up to speed and feel less like a deer in headlights.
5. Roll with the Punches
Things change, priorities shift, and you’ll probably get thrown curveballs. It’s all part of the game. Stay flexible, keep a positive attitude, and know that it’s okay not to have everything figured out right away. Adaptability is your secret weapon.
Bottom Line
Being the new consultant doesn’t have to be stressful. With a little curiosity, some relationship-building, and a lot of flexibility, you’ll be up to speed in no time—and maybe even have a little fun along the way!
Just keep it cool, stay curious, and remember: you’ve got this!
Logisolve attends the CIOs Against Cancer Live Auction
Logisolve had a great time sponsoring and attending the CIOs Against Cancer Live Auction on April 24—an incredible evening filled with networking, community, and support for a meaningful cause. Tom Newman, Jennifer Wallace, Emily Fossey, and Amanda Zais proudly represented Logisolve, joining tech leaders from across the region in support of the American Cancer Society. Events like this highlight the power of the local tech community—not just in building connections, but in coming together to rally behind a cause that impacts so many lives. A big thank you to everyone who made this inspiring evening possible. We are already looking forward to the next one!
