How do you decompress?

By Katie Pierce | Director of Human Resources

What does it mean to decompress? To relax and unwind after a long and possibly stressful day.

Why you should decompress? It is needed for both your mental and physical wellbeing. It helps to relieve negative energy and frustrations from the day. It allows you to forget (at least temporarily forget) about things from the day and the long list of things you have to do. The goal is to get to your own “happy place” and do something that you enjoy. Through decompressing it can bring new clarity and revived energy.

“Stress is caused by being ‘here’ but wanting to be ‘there.’ – Eckhart Tolle

I think we can all relate to the above quote in one way or another. Tying it in with the theme, I think it is important to decompress and take time ‘there’ and then in return be more present, engaged and motivated when you are ‘here’.

How you can decompress? Everyone unwinds from a long day at work in a different way. For some it might be going to the gym, spending time with family/ friends, reading a book, or listening to music. For myself, it is getting out in nature and going for a walk.

I am fortunate to live in the beautiful area of St. Croix Falls, WI where there are numerous hiking trails to enjoy. Some of my favorites include:

  • Interstate Park- WI
    • River Bluff Trail
    • Silverbrook Trail Loop
  • Interstate Park- MN
  • Sandstone Bluffs Trail
  • Ice Age Trail- Mindy Creek Segment
  • Cascade Falls Trail

I hope you enjoy the pictures I have taken, on some the trails listed above.
